Helping to Build a Better Union

The LAP Team, co-chaired by Peggy Gonser and Kathleen Thorn, with members Carolyn Dodd, Carl Spatola, Colleen Kretz, Nakia Williams, Ted Tsirigotis and George Alexander continues to develop strong programs in Membership Involvement, Communications, Media and Public Relations, Community Outreach and Political Action.

Political Action

The ATA proudly supported DuWayne Gregory by making phone calls to NYSUT members informing them of his devotion to education throughout our community. We are happy to report that Mr. Gregory was elected to the Suffolk county Legislature in July 2008.

ATA Mentor Program

The first year in teaching can be challenging. ATA''s mentor program, which pairs new teachers with veteran teachers, offers an effective support system during this time. As part of this program, new teachers attend a series of mini workshops during the year run by ATA Mentor Coordinator, Marc Engler and Asst Supt. of Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Kathleen Gulbin. Selected mentors will be paid and receive staff development hours. To apply contact Marc Engler PAMES.
